Marcel Worring received the M.Sc. degree (Hons.) in computer science from VU University Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 1993. He is currently the director of the Informatics Institute of the University of Amsterdam where he holds an Associate Professorship and is a Full Professor on Data Science for Business Analytics at the Amsterdam Business School, University of Amsterdam. He has (co-)authored over 170 peer reviewed scientific papers covering a broad range of topics (h-index 43, i10 index 109). His research interest is in multimedia analytics; the integration of multimedia analysis, multimedia mining, information visualization, and multimedia interaction into a coherent framework yielding more than its constituent components. He applies the techniques in many application areas ranging from law enforcement, to city analytics, marketing and art history, Prof. Worring was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and is currently an Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Multimedia. He was Program Chair for ICMR 2013 and ACM Multimedia 2013, and general chair for ACM Multimedia 2016 in Amsterdam. In 2013 he was one of the founders of Amsterdam Data Science a collaboration between the four knowledge institutes in Amsterdam on the broad topic of data science in research, education, and innovation which now brings together around 600 researchers.

Vincenzo Piuri is Full Professor at the University of Milan, Italy (since 2000), where he was also Department Chair (2007-2012). He was Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano, Italy (1992-2000), visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (summers 1996-1999), and visiting researcher at George Mason University, USA (summers 2012-2016).
He founded a start-up company, Sensure srl, in the area of intelligent systems for industrial applications (leading it from 2007 until 2010) and was active in industrial research projects with several companies. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Research and industrial expertise. His main research and industrial application interests are: intelligent systems, computational intelligence, pattern analysis and recognition, machine learning, signal and image processing, biometrics, intelligent measurement systems, industrial applications, distributed processing systems, internet-of-things, cloud computing, fault tolerance, application-specific digital processing architectures, and arithmetic architectures. His research was performed in national and European projects funded by industries, the European Union, the Italian Ministry of Research, and the National Research Council of Italy. He published innovative results in more than 400 papers in international journals, international conference proceedings, books, and book chapters.
